Vietnam continues to dominate imports in the Philippines

Vietnam’s dominance of cement imports in the Philippines continues to cause concern for local producers. Total cement deliveries in Vietnam fell nine per cent to 5,968,302t in April 2022 when compared with April 2021 and decreased 16 per cent when compared with March 2022, according to the Vietnamese National Cement Association (VNCA). Philippines-based Eagle Cement Corp reported a three per cent decrease in net income to PHP1.66bn (US$31.674m) in the first quarter of 2022 from PHP1.72bn in the equivalent period of 2021. Total cement deliveries in Vietnam reached 7,110,132t in March, representing a YoY increase of 25 per cent and a MoM advance of 101 per cent, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA).
