Sika sees successful start to the year

Sika has reported a successful start to 2019 business year, reporting a new sales record of CHF1644.8m (EUR1462m) in the first quarter. This equates to an increase of 7.1 per cent  in local currencies. A negative currency effect (-1.3 per cent ) led to robust sales growth in Swiss francs of 5.8 per cent . Switzerland sees 5% increase in cement deliveries

Cement deliveries by the Swiss cement industry increased 4.8 per cent YoY to 874,275.2t in the 1Q19, according to the country’s cement association, Cemsuisse. It follows a 2.2 per cent YoY to 834,251.6t in the 1Q18. The market expansion was driven by a 6.8 per cent rise in the sales of lower-carbon CEM II cements. In Switzerland and Liechtenstein, total cement deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2018 increased two per cent YoY to 1,088,196t from 1,067,145t in the 4Q17, according to Cemsuisse, the Swiss cement association. For the full year, deliveries edged up 0.2 per cent to 4.289Mt from 4.272Mt. Cement deliveries in Switzerland  slipped 1.7 per cent YoY to 1,144,790t in the third quarter of 2018, according to Cemsuisse, the country’s cement association. In 3Q17 1,164,378t of cement was dispatched. In the January-September 2018 period dispatches remained largely stable at 3,201,205t when compared with sales of 3,205,171t in 9M17. Swiss cement sales return to positive growth

Switzerland’s domestic cement deliveries has increased 2.9 per cent YoY to 1.22Mt in 2Q18, returning to positive growth for the first time since 4Q16, according the country’s cement association, Cemsuisse. In the first half of 2018, deliveries advanced 0.8 per cent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. However, cement deliveries by rail has decreased by 0.9 per cent to 51.6 per cent of the total.

LafargeHolcim announces jobs restructuring at corporate offices

LafargeHolcim has announced proposals to simplify its corporate organisation. Around 200 corporate jobs will go and the corporate offices in Paris and Zurich will close. Remaining positions in Switzerland will be moved to the company's Holderbank site and a new corporate office in Zug. In Paris remaining positions would be moved to Clamart in the southwest of the city. Vigier cement work's quarry, near the Swiss town of Bienne revealed the largest electrical vehicle in the world on Friday 20 April. The E-Dumper named 'Lynx' weighs 58t empty, with tyres measuring 2m  in diameter and nine steps up to the drivers' cabin. It was built from a diesel-powered dump truck. Domestic deliveries in Switzerland declined by 2.2 per cent in the first quarter of 2018, according to the country’s cement association, Cemsuisse. Volumes decreased from 853,180t in 1Q17 to 834,252t in 1Q18 as cold weather in March extended the winter period and fewer working days affected cement demand.

LafargeHolcim announces five-year strategy

LafargeHolcim has announced its new five-year strategy to grow faster than the overall market and cut costs. The plan targets an annual sales growth of 3-5 per cent, recurring EBITDA growth of at least five per cent, improvement in free cash flow to over 40 per cent of EBITDA and increasing the return on invested capital to over eight per cent, according to Reuters. Cement deliveries in Switzerland saw a 2.8 per cent fall to in 2017 as Cemsuisse reports a domestic sales volume of 4.3Mta. The drop follows a 4.2 per cent rise in 2016. The initial drop in the 1H17 was partly absorbed in the 2H17, but the 4Q17 saw a 0.8 per cent decline. Cemsuisse said the share of rail transport increased YoY to account for 53.3 per cent of all deliveries.
