Cement imports by France tumble 25% in August

August 2023 saw France import 227,000t of cement, marking a 24.9 per cent decline MoM and the second month in a row that imports have contracted following two months of growth. According to IndexBox, the main suppliers were Belgium (68,000t), Spain (42,000t) and Vietnam (24,000t), collectively accounting for 59 per cent of imports in August. Swiss team draws on archives to develop low-carbon binders

A team of experts from EPFL (Switzerland), ETH Zurich and a Geneva-based architecture firm has developed a new type of non-reinforced concrete made from stone offcuts. Cement consumption in Spain declined 6.7 per cent in October 2023 to 1,171,629t when compared with October 2022, according to Oficemen, the Spanish cement association. Exports were down 10.6 per cent YoY to 430,421t in October, representing the fourth-consecutive month of decline. In the first 10 months of 2023 cement demand edged up by two per cent to 12,126,694t. Turkey's Army Pension Fund, OYAK , has reached a preliminary agreement to sell its stakes in two cement companies to Taiwan Cement Corp for a total of about EUR673m. OYAK is selling a 20 per cent stake in Oyak Denizli Cement of Turkey to Taiwan Cement, valuing the company at EUR1.3bn (US$1.42bn). Thousands of tonnes of waste ceramics from one of the UK’s largest ceramic tile manufacturers will be recycled to make cement as part of a new initiative from Aggregates Industries .
