Cement consumption in Argentina declined 7.8 per cent MoM to 874,187t in May 2021 but surged 34.8 per cent YoY from 648,543t in May 2020, according to AFCP, the national cement association. Argentina’s Loma Negra has seen its net revenue surge 35.4 per cent YoY to ARS13,175m (US$143m) in the first quarter of 2021, against ARS9734m in the year-ago period, mainly on the back of strong results from its cement segment. Cement demand in Argentina surged 134.6 per cent YoY to 956,373t in April 2021, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. However, this does compare to the low base of April 2020, which was considered the worst month of 2020, and is down 2.8 per cent from last month’s results. Cement demand in Argentina increased 20.1 per cent to 895,559t in January 2021 when compared with January 2020, when demand reached 745,681t, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. The requirement of the market was entirely met by domestic production, which saw a 19.2 per cent rise YoY to 903,756t in the first month of the year. In January 2020 output stood at 758,095t. However, exports declined 34.1 per cent from 12,414t in January 2020 to 8197t one year later.
