Argentina’s cement consumption picked up by 12.7 per cent YoY in October 2020 as it increased to 1,070,118t (October 2019: 948,931t), according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Cement dispatches in Colombia increased to 1.131Mt in September 2020, up 4.9 per cent from 1.078Mt in September 2019, according to DANE, the national statistics office. Chilean cement dispatches fell 13 per cent to 868,487t in July-September 2020 from 998,291t in the 3Q19, according to the country’s chamber of construction, CChC. The latest data show a deceleration of the drop in consumption experienced in the second quarter of 2020. Cement demand in Indonesia fell to 6.175Mt in September 2020, according to the Indonesian cement association, ASI. Demand in the key market of Java decreased to 3.37Mt in September 2020 from 3.91Mt in September 2019.  Furthermore, the Sumatra and Sulawesi markets contracted by 3.4 per cent YoY to 1.34Mt and 549,000t, respectively. Total cement sales in Vietnam fell by 12 per cent YoY and by seven per cent MoM to 4,826,791t, according to the Vietnamese National Cement Association (VNCA). Cement demand in Spain has declined by 11.6 per cent YoY to 9.858Mt at the end of the 3Q20, according to Oficemen, the country’s cement association. The US Portland Cement Association (PCA) forecasts a modest decrease in cement consumption in 2020 and 2021 of 1.5 and 0.9 per cent, respectively. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico slipped to 9.9Mt in July 2020 from 10Mt in July 2019, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
