Colombian cement market expands 4% in November

Domestic dispatches of grey cement in Colombia advanced 4.3 per cent YoY to 1.065Mt in November 2017 from 1.021Mt, according to the latest data from DANE, the country’s statistics office. Cement consumption in Vietnam remained largely stable in November 2018 when compared with the previous year at 5.675Mt, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Cement consumption in Peru rose by 4.8 per cent YoY in November to 1.017Mt, up from 0.971Mt in November 0217, according to the latest data from the country’s cement association, Asocem. Cement sales in the Brazilian market between January and November 2018 totalled 48.7Mt, representing a 1.2 per cent fall YoY, according to the National Union of the Cement Industry (SNIC). Apparent consumption of cement, which includes domestic sales plus imports, slipped 1.5 per cent YoY to 49Mt. Overall cement sales in Puerto Rico advanced 41.3 per cent in January-November 2018. Cement sales amounted to 1.1m bags of 94lb in November alone, according to Esmerk Latin American News. Production during the mont reached 864,000 bags, the lowest figure in reported in the previous 11 months.

Cement consumption in Spain up 10% in October

Demand for cement in Spain has risen 10.1 per cent YoY in October, according to the country’s cement association, Oficemen. In the past year, from November 2017 to October 2018, cement demand reached 13.3Mt in Spain – up 1.2Mt when compared with the previous year period. Exports fell by 11.9 per cent in September. Data for October are yet undisclosed.

Cement sales down in Canaries

Cement sales on the Canary islands decreased 2.4 per cent in November, when compared with November 2017. Sales reached 52,221t, according to the Canary Statistics Institute. Cement sales fell on the main two islands – by 15.8 per cent to 17,602t on Gran Canaria and by 0.7 per cent to 21,969t on Tenerife. Other islands reported a rise.

DR Congo cement demand up 2% at end June 2018

Cement production in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at the end of June reached 377,980t, according to the country’s statistics office. This compares with an output of 376,342t in the same period of 2017. Demand for cement in the DRC at the end of June rose 1.6 per cent YoY to 539,474t from 530,820t in 2017. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA and Puerto Rico decreased 4.2 per cent YoY to 8.4Mt in September, according to the latest data from the US Geological Survey (USGS).
