Bangladesh revises export target for cement in FY20

The Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) has set an export target for cement industry at US$10.50m for financial year 2019-20 (July 2019-June 2020) compared to US$14m, earmarked for the previous fiscal year. This target has been revised downward by 25 per cent, due to growing demand in the country as well as competition. Kenya’s domestic cement exports have recorded a 65.3 per cent decline in value to KES362.28m (US$3.5m) in the first six months of the year, against KES1.04bn in the 1H18, according to preliminary cement exports statistics from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK). Cement dispatches by Vietnamese producers surged by 30 per cent YoY to 8.08Mt in July, according to data by the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). When compared with the previous month, deliveries were up eight per cent. Domestic sales improved by 21 per cent to 5.794Mt when compared with July 2018. Peru’s cement consumption increased 9.1 per cent YoY to 983,000t in July 2019 when compared with the previous-year’s equivalent month, which saw demand at 901,000t, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Uzbekistan’s Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (AGMK) plans to ship several batches of cement to Afghanistan by the end of the year, after signing a number of supply contracts in July. Nepal's cement producers are demanding that the government supports them in attempts to find export markets for cement and clinker as overcapacity in Nepal is expected to rise steeply in the next few years. Brazilian cement sales increased 8.1 per cent YoY to 4.953Mt in July 2019, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Total cement consumption in Argentina in July 2019 increased 5.1 per cent YoY to 1,000,711t, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. The market requirement was entirely supplied by domestic plants, unlike in July 2018 when 2540t of cement was imported. Vietnamese cement companies sold 7.497Mt of cement in June 2019, down four per cent YoY and 12 per cent MoM, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA).
