Malaysia-based Hume Cement reported a MYR48.33m net profit for the 1QFY23-24, ended 30 September 2023 versus a net loss of MYR12.04m in the year-ago period. Holcim Philippines has signed a power purchase agreement with Berde Renewables, a distributed energy platform of I Squared Capital. Cement sales in Vietnam dropped 21 per cent YoY to 4,031,951t in September 2023, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Of this total, VICEM reported sales of 1,188,851t, down 26 per cent YoY while other VNCA members saw an identical decline to 833,100t. South Korea is to impose anti-dumping duties on white Portland cement imported from Egypt, said the industry ministry. Following a preliminary examination, the Korea Trade Commission (KTC) recommended  the Ministry of Finance to levy provisional duties of 72.23 per cent on Egyptian white cement imports to protect the local cement industry while it carries out an additional probe. Cement sales in Vietnam declined 11 per cent YoY to 4,471,258t in August 2023 when compared with August 2022, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Cement sales in Indonesia totalled 28.052Mt in the first six months of 2023, down 4.8 per cent from 29.417Mt in the 6M22. Java, the country’s largest market, saw sales decline by 6.8 per cent YoY to 14.571Mt as sales in Jateng fell by 17.1 per cent.
