Taiwan Cement Corp records 6% decline in revenue

Taiwan Cement Corp has announced a 5.9 per cent YoY fall in revenue for the second quarter of 2019, falling to TWD31.36bn (US$1bn) from TWD33.32bn. Pretax profit saw a decline of five per cent to TWD9.33bn, while net profit rose 2.3 per cent to TWD7.23bn from TWD7.06bn.

The Taipei High Administrative Court has repealed Asia Cement Corp’s (ACC) right to operate a cement mine located in Taroko National Park, Taiwan. Taiwan Cement Co (TCC) has committed a budget of TWD600m (US$19.1m) to expand its carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS) technology this year. Chia Hsin Cement Corp reported a 21.2 per cent decrease in revenues to TWD146.5m (US$4.67m) in May when compared with May 2018, when revenues reached TWD185.9m was posted. For the first five months of 2019, revenues declined by 8.2 per cent to TWD760m from TWD828m in the 5M18.

Taiwan’s Hsing Ta Cement has reported a 30 per cent YoY increase in revenue for May 2019, rising to TWD800.42m (US$25.4m) from TWD625.56m. In the first five months of the year, the company saw revenue advance 30.6 per cent to TWD2.91bn from TWD2.23bn. Meanwhile, Lucky Cement announced that its revenue was up 3.6 per cent to TWD305.28m in May, compared with TWD294.58m in the year-ago period. In Jan-May 2019, revenue increased 3.9 per cent to TWD1.46bn from TWD1.41bn.

Taiwan’s Asia Cement Corp saw a 54.4 per cent surge in net income for the first quarter of 2019 at TWD2.93bn (US$93.6m). Taiwan-based Hsing Ta Cement has reported a 38.2 per cent increase in revenues to TWD753.3m (US$24.3m) in April 2019 from TWD545.2m in April 2018. In the first four months of 2019, the cement producer saw revenues surge to TWD2.113bn, up 31.5 per cent from TWD1.607m in the 4M18.
