Spain sees 9% rise in demand in September

The Cement Demand Index has seen an 8.5 per cent increase YoY in September, but slipped 0.2 per cent MoM, according to data published by Oficemen. In the October 2017-September 2018 period, it is estimated that Spain has consumed 13Mt of cement with growth attributed to the residential sector. Clinker and cement exports continue to fall for the 16th month running. In August they fell by 8.4 per cent YoY.

Pakistan's cement industry earned foreign exchange revenue of US$26.74m by exporting 616,648t of cement during October 2018, compared to US$29.05m on 671,913t of cement in previous month. Peru’s cement consumption advanced 2.9 per cent YoY to 1.02Mt, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Cement production by domestic producers fell by two per cent YoY and by 2.9 per cent MoM to 0.903Mt while clinker output decreased by 23.5 per cent YoY and 2.1 per cent MoM to 0.678Mt in October. New levy to increase input costs for Australian manufacturers

Australian manufacturers and industry groups have warned that a new "biosecurity levy" would increase costs by 3000-5000 per cent on the key inputs for cement production, aluminium and steel. The levy, included in the May budget, is estimated to raise AUD108m (US$78.45m) a year, according to The Australian. Kazakh producer increases cement exports to Uzbekistan

Kazakhstan-based cement producer, SAS-Tobe Technologies, has increased its exports to Uzbekistan. As the first Kazakh manufacturer accredited by the Uzbek Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange, it has sold 1500t of cement through the exchange in two months. The company plans to export more than 50 per cent of its products, about 0.25Mta, to Uzbekistan, according to Business World.

Argentina's cement demand falls 10% in Oct 2018

Argentina's cement market contracted by 9.6 per cent YoY to 1,040,317t in October 2018, according to the latest data by the country’s cement association, AFCP. Deliveries by the country’s cement producers fell by 8.8 per cent to 1,040,197t while at 120t, imports were a shadow of those in October 2017 (9720t). In addition, domestic cement producers exported 8280t of cement, down 10.5 per cent YoY, of a total output of 1,048,477t, which fell by 8.9 per cent YoY (October 2017: 1,150,524t). ...

Cement demand in Spain noted an eight per cent YoY growth in June, according to the Spanish cement association, Oficemen. In addition, cement exports have seen an accelerated decline, falling by 10 per cent YoY. For 2018 the association expects consumption to advance by seven per cent YoY, closing the year with a demand of 13.3Mt.

Itacamba exports 200,000t of clinker

Faced with a oversupply in its domestic market, Bolivia’s Itacamba, is focussing on export markets. Cement producers in the Kyrgyz Republic manufactured 1.6Mt of cement in the first three quarters of 2018, according to GS-Expert. This represents a YoY growth of 36 per cent. Domestic consumption rose seven per cent while exports saw a 420 per cent hike.
