Moroccan demand increases 4% in February

Morocco’s cement market expanded by 4.3 per cent in February to 1,115,641t from 1,069,926t in February 2018, according to the country’s Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation. The latest data indicates a modest deceleration of market growth when compared with January, when demand increased by 5.3 per cent YoY. In the first two months of 2019, domestic consumption advanced by 4.8 per cent to 2,289,727t from January-February 2018, when demand reached 2,184,783t.

Cement sales in Morocco increased by 20.1 per cent YoY to 1.043Mt in September 2018 from 0.688Mt in September 2017, according to data from the Ministry of Urbanisation and Housing. In the first nine months of 2018, cement demand has fallen 2.7 per cent YoY to 9.799Mt from 10.07Mt in 9M17. Cement consumption in Morocco declined 28.2 per cent in August 2018 to 881,411Mt when compared with August 2017, when 1,227,932t was sold, according to data of the Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation. Sales in the largest market, Casablanca fell by a third YoY to 193,737t while in Marrakech-Safi deliveries dropped by 13.1Mt to 135,824t over the same period. Cement demand in Morocco increased 7.8 per cent YoY to 1,298,479t in July 2018 from 1,204,101t in the previous year, according to data from the country's Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation. Moroccan cement demand declined 15.1 per cent YoY in March 2018 to 1,124,152t from 1,324,221t in the third month of 2017, according to the latest data from the country's Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation. Cement consumption in Morocco fell 4.4 per cent in January to 1,114,857t from 1,166,184t in January 2016, according to the country’s Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation. In the country’s largest market, Casablanca-Settat, sales fell 8.6 per cent to 254,328t. Cement demand in Morocco increased 5.2 per cent YoY in November 2017 to 1,274,165t from 1,211,298t in October 2016, according to data by the country's Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation.
