Ecebol plant expected to start up in June

Bolivia’s Empresa Pública de Cemento (Ecebol) expects to commission its new Potosí plant in June with the project currently 92 per cent complete and a budget execution of 85 per cent. The start-up of the 1.3Mta plant will take place on 30 June with the grinding and dispatch of the first products. Brazil’s cement association, SNIC, reported that cement sales in the domestic market declined by 7.2 per cent YoY to 4.42Mt in February 2023 from 4.763Mt. SNIC attributes the contraction to Brazil’s economic scenario with high household debt, high interest rates and inflation as well as above-average rainfall. Argentina’s Loma Negra has reported a two per cent YoY increase in revenue in the 4Q22 to ARS36,763m (US$215m), mainly driven by a strong performance in the concrete and aggregates segments, which helped offset a fall in cement sales. Adjusted EBITDA came in at ARS13,173m, up 5.4 per cent YoY in adjusted pesos, or up 42.7 per cent in dollars at US$91m. Colombian cement dispatches declined 3.5 per cent to 0.93Mt in January 2023 from 0.964Mt in January 2022, according to the country’s statistics office, DANE. When compared with January 2019 cement demand increased 1.4 per cent from 0.917Mt. The cement market in Argentina contracted by 4.5 per cent YoY and 6.5 per cent MoM to 895,938t in February 2023, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. In February 2022 demand reached 938,072t while in January 2023 it stood at 958,230t. Chile’s Cemento Polpaico , owned by the Hurtado Vicuña Group , reported a 16.9 per cent increase in revenue in 2022 to CLP368,391m when compared with 2021 when revenue reached CP315,273m. Total cement dispatches in Peru fell by 16 per cent to 0.915Mt in January 2023 when compared with 1.088Mt delivered in January 2022, according to Asocem, the country’s cement association. Peru-based Cementos Pacasmayo saw its revenues increase by 1.7 per cent YoY to PEN533.8m (US$138.8m) in the fourth quarter of 2022, mainly due to an increase in average prices of bagged cement as inflation affected the company’s raw material and energy costs.
