Cement consumption in Bolivia reached 290,525t in March 2021, up 50.8 per cent when compared with 192,670t in March 2020, according the country’s national statistics office, INE. Holcim Argentina inaugurates US$120m new line

Holcim Argentina has inaugurated a new line at its Malagueño plant in Cordoba, following an investment of around US$120m. The project included the construction of a new kiln line, a state-of-the-art vertical roller mill and a dispatch centre. Chile’s cement demand increases 12% in March

Chilean cement consumption saw a 12 per cent YoY hike to 385,276t in March 2021 when compared with March 2020, when demand reached 344,098t, according to the Chilean Chamber of Construction (CChC). When compared with February 2021, consumption edged up by 9.5 per cent. In the first quarter of 2021 demand was up 7.5 per cent to 1.083Mt, compared with 1.008Mt in the 1Q20, which had seen a 6.7 per cent drop vs 1Q19.

Cement dispatches from Peru in April surged to 0.985Mt in April 2021 from a low base of 0.011Mt in April 2020 when the country was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Brazilian cement sales surged 26.5 per cent YoY to 5.3Mt in April, according to the domestic cement association, SNIC. Argentina’s Loma Negra has seen its net revenue surge 35.4 per cent YoY to ARS13,175m (US$143m) in the first quarter of 2021, against ARS9734m in the year-ago period, mainly on the back of strong results from its cement segment. Bolivia’s cement consumption slipped 13.3 per cent from 262,895t in February 2020 to 228,018t in February 2021, according to the country’s statistics office, INE. Cement sales in Colombia increased 60.7 per cent to 1.189Mt in March 2021 from 0.74Mt in March 2020, according to DANE, the country’s statistics office. Sales in the retail sector were up 76 per cent YoY while ready-mix concrete companies saw a 47 per cent hike. Construction companies and contractors increased their offtake by 39.6 per cent YoY. Cement demand in Argentina surged 134.6 per cent YoY to 956,373t in April 2021, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. However, this does compare to the low base of April 2020, which was considered the worst month of 2020, and is down 2.8 per cent from last month’s results.
