Cement dispatches in Peru edged up by three per cent YoY to 1.227Mt in August 2022 when compared with 1.192Mt dispatched in August 2021, according to the country’s cement association, ASOCEM. CBB reports 74% drop in net profit

Chilean cement producer Cementos Bío-Bío (CBB) saw a 15.3 per cent increase in sales to CLP155,089m in the first half of 2022 when compared with the CLP134,538m reported for the 1H21. Gross profits declined 12.2 per cent YoY to CLP43,268m in the 1H from CLP49,286m on the back of higher distribution and administration costs. August sales remain stable in Brazil

Domestic cement sales in Brazil edged up 0.1 per cent to 5.866Mt in August 2022 from 5.858Mt in August 2021, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. The cement industry in Venezuela is operating at 40 per cent of its installed capacity, according to Orlando Chirinos, president of the Cement Workers Federation (Fetracemento). “The cement industry is totally paralysed, technically, because it is below its production capacity. Cement consumption in Argentina increased by 13.2 per cent YoY and seven per cent MoM to 1,226,646t in August 2022, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. In August 2021 demand reached 1,083,824t and in July 2022 1,146,900t was sold on the home market. Domestic cement producers manufactured a total of 1,231,760t of cement, up 12.3 per cent YoY and 6.9 per cent MoM. Holcim has closed the sale of its business in Brazil to CSN (Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional) for an enterprise value of US$1.025bn. The deal was closed following approvals from Brazilian authorities. Chilean cement dispatches declined 23.6 per cent YoY in July 2022 to 276,554t when compared with July 2021 when 361,956t were dispatched, according to the Chilean construction chamber, CChC.
