Cement demand in Bolivia advanced 40.6 per cent to 325,789t in July 2021 from 231,662t in July 2020 but remained 9.3 per cent below its 2019 level of 359,307t, according to national statistics office, INE. Cement dispatches in Peru advanced 18 per cent to 1.202Mt in August 2021 when compared with 1.018Mt in August 2020, according to Asocem, the country’s cement association. Cement producers in Uruguay increased their total deliveries by 8.3 per cent YoY to 60,950t in June 2021 from 55,930t in June 2020, according to the Asociación de Fabricantes de Cemento Portland del Uruguay (AFCPU). Cement sales in Brazil edged up 1.1 per cent YoY to 5.864Mt in August 2021, according to SNIC, the country’s cement association. Holcim has signed an agreement with Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) for the divestment of its business in Brazil for an enterprise value of US$1.025bn. Cement dispatches in Chile advanced 55.5 per cent YoY to 361,956t in July 2021 from a low base of 233,186t in July 2020, according to the Camara Chilena de Construcción (CChC). In July 2019 cement dispatches reached 317,626t. In the first seven months of 2021 an increase of 24.5 per cent to 2,507,802t was reported. This compares favourably with the 2,014,574t in the January-July 2020 period. In the 7M19 cement dispatches were at 2,382,831t.

CBB sees 67% rise in profit

Chilean cement producer CBB (formerly known as Cementos Bío-Bío) reported a 13.9 per cent advance in revenues to CLP134.538bn in the first six months of 2021 from CLP118.124bn in the 6M20. In August 2021 the Argentine market expanded by 18.2 per cent YoY to 1,083,914t from 917,233t in August 2020 while MoM there was a 3.9 per cent improvement in offtake, according to the Asociación de Fabricantes de Cemento Portland (AFCP).
