Paraguay’s Cementos Concepción (CECON) has started commissioning its new 1.01Mta plant in Concepción, San Lázaro, by commencing crushing limestone to be used in the full production process. An UNTHA CR2000 shredder is set to drive forward Geofuturo’s energy-from-waste (EfW) operations in Colombia, converting the country’s waste into refuse-derived fuel (RDF) for the cement industry. The equipment will be processing approximately 2200tpm of materials at the firm’s new EfW plant, Geoparque, in Cartagena. Cement dispatches in Peru slipped by three per cent to 1.089Mt in July 2022 from 1.126Mt in July 2021, according to the country’s cement association, ASOCEM. Colombia’s cement demand advanced 4.2 per cent in June 2022 to 1.117Mt from 1.072Mt in June 2021, according to the country’s statistics office, DANE. When compared with June 2019, cement dispatches were up 14 per cent from 0.979Mt. Cementos Yura sees advance in 2Q domestic and export sales

Cementos Yura, Peru, increased domestic cement dispatches by 12 per cent YoY in the 2Q22. In addition, export sales advanced by 22 per cent YoY in the 2Q22 on the back of higher exports to Chile. The company increased its clinker production in the 2Q22 by 35.8 per cent when compared to the year-ago period as cement demand increased and its inventory recovered.

June sales in Chile down 16%

Chile’s cement market contracted 16.4 per cent YoY as cement producers dispatched 297,514t of product in June 2022, according to the Chilean construction chamber, CChC. In June 2021 cement dispatches reached 355,851t. In the first six months of 2022 domestic cement dispatches declined 8.1 per cent YoY to 1,972,730t. In the 6M21 dispatches stood at 2,145,846t.

UNACEM sees contracting 2Q profit margin

Peru-based UNACEM reported a consolidated net profit of PEN110.8m (US$26.7m), up 25.8 per cent YoY, as the company’s revenues increased and interest expenses fell. However, the cost of sales was higher than expected, impacting YoY profit margins. Cement demand in Argentina increased by 9.9 per cent in July 2022, according to the AFCP, the country cement association. Dispatches were up 3.9 per cent MoM to 1,146,900t. Brazil’s antitrust regulator CADE has given its approval to steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional’s (CSN) acquisition of Holcim’s local cement business. The deal is believed to be worth US$1bn, according to Reuters.
