Peruvian cement market expands 5% in February

Cement dispatches in Peru reached 1.088Mt in February 2022, up five per cent when compared with February 2021, according to the Peruvian cement association, Asocem. The total includes shipments by Asocem members (1.018Mt) and non-affiliated cement producers, which accounted for around 70,000t. February sales in Brazil increase 1%

Cement sales in Brazil edged up 1.2 per cent YoY to 4.726Mt in February 2022 from 4.672Mt in February 2021, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Sales were supported by more favourable prospects in the labour market, the continuity of the income transfer programme Auxílio Brasil and a considerable fall in COVID-19 cases. Cemento Polpaico has named Andrés Pérez Algarra as new General Manager, succeeding Javier Moreno Hueyo, who is leaving the post after five years of tenure. His appointment becomes effective 1 April 2022. Mr Pérez Algarra is currently the company’s commercial manager.  

Argentina’s cement market expands 16% in February

Cement consumption in Argentina increased 15.6 per cent YoY to 938,327t in February 2022 when compared with 811,697t in the second month of the previous year, according to AFCP, the national cement association. Argentina-based Loma Negra , owned by I ntercement do Brazil SA ,  reported a 37.4 per cent fall in net profit to ARS2795m (US$25.8m) in the fourth quarter of 2021. Peru’s Ministry of Labour and Employment Promotion has started a series of technical meetings with construction unions and companies to lower the weight of cement bags in the country from 42.5kg to 25kg. Argos, Grupo Argos' cement company , reported a consolidated EBITDA of COP2.16bn (US$55m) at the end of 2021, representing an increase of 34 per cent compared to 2020 and the highest in the company's history. The annual EBITDA margin stood at 22 per cent, the highest since 2005, when the cement company began its internationalisation process. Cement dispatches to the Peruvian cement market by Asocem members reached 1.012Mt, up two per cent YoY and by 22 per cent when compared with January 2020, according to Peru’s cement association, Asocem.
