Lebanon to allow cement imports by individuals

Lebanon’s outgoing Minister of Industry, Imad Hoballah, indicated that the country would allow individuals to import cement to lower the price of cement. Exports of cement from Uganda to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have increased by 27,000t in the last two years, according to Israel Tinkasimire, Hima Cement’s commercial director. Cement exports from Pakistan saw an 8.6 per cent YoY decline to US$19.253m in December when compared with US$21 in December 2019, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics attributed this drop to the closure of ports, lower trade activity on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and lower demand from international buyers as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The cement industry in Pakistan kicked off the FY20-21 on an exciting note. During the first six months of the current fiscal year, total cement dispatches grew by 15.7 per cent, from 24.751Mt in July-December 2019, to 28.628Mt in July-December 2020.
