United Cement Group is privatising Qizilqumcement JSC, according to the investment company UzAssets, which operates under the State Assets Management Agency of Uzbekistan. CNPC begins 2.5Mta plant construction

China’s CNPC has reportedly started construction of a US$200m plant in Uzbekistan’s Tashkent region. The facility is expected to produce 2.5Mta of cement. CNPC has already imported more than 40 machines and equipment worth US$16.7m into Uzbekistan for the project.

Uzbekistan posts 23% production increase in 1H21

Uzbekistan has reported a 23 per cent YoY increase in Portland cement production to 5.8Mt in the first half of 2021, according to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan imported 1Mt of cement worth US$50.5m in the January-April 2021 period, more than doubling the year-ago volume of 515,100t, according to Trend reporting the latest data from the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan. Cyprus-based Lamanka Enterprises Ltd has reportedly bought 84.197 per cent of the shares in Akhangarancement JSC in Uzbekistan. The stake was acquired for UZS557.6bn (US$52.7m) according to Uzbekistan Daily. In March 2021, Eurocement Holding AG announced its plan to sell a block of shares in Akhangarancement. The price was set at UZS103,593.05 but the block of shares was sold at a rpice of UZS134,671.68.

IKN is building a new line for Qizilqum Cement

IKN is erecting a new production line at Qizilqum Cement plant, Uzbekistan. IKN's scope of supply, as a main equipment supplier, includes process integration and equipment design for the pyroprocessing line as well as supply of the core parts for preheater, kiln and cooler, including ID fan, kiln drive and burners. With the start-up scheduled for 2022 the new six-stage preheater will be a new landmark in the region.

Tajikistan to see exports rise to 1.9Mt by 2023

Tajikistan is expected to see cement exports increase by 200,000tpa and reach 1.9Mt by 2023. Overall cement production in the country is also projected to rise to 5.3Mt by the same time. More than 4.2Mt of cement was produced in 2020 and over 1.3Mt was exported to neighbouring countries, according to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies. Uzbekistan (764,000t) and Afghanistan (505,000t) were the main importers, while 42,000 were sent to Kyrgyzstan.
