Colombian cement market contracts 5% in May

Colombian cement deliveries in May slipped 5.3 per cent YoY in May, totalling 1.129Mt, according to the country’s statistics office, Dane. Output from Colombian cement factories fell 6.4 per cent to 1.057Mt. In the year to date, domestic dispatches remained stable at 5.056Mt while in the June 2015-May 2016 period increased 4.5 per cent to 12.808Mt.

Indonesia cement demand rises 3% in May

Indonesia’s cement market continues to expand, according to official Indonesian cement industry statistics. In addition, the country is shipping increasing volumes of clinker although cement exports have fallen. In May demand reached 5,133,863t, up three per cent YoY. Azerbaijan: Cement production drops by 30% in year to May

Cement production in Azerbaijan has fallen by 30.3 per cent for the five months to May 2016, Azer press reports. The national statistics committee put the decline in output down to lower public and private sector spending. Production of concrete fell by 60 per cent, to 177,000t. Azerbaijan produced 829,000t of cement in the first five months of the year. Clinker imports also fell by 55 per cent, to 140,500t, with prices remaining unchanged at US$46.60/t.

Uganda: drop in cement production

Colombia's cement consumption in February rose by 6.1 per cent YoY to 1.046Mt from 0.987Mt the previous year, according to the country's statistics office, DANE. Building companies and contractors supported this rise in particular as they bought 15.2 per cent more cement than in February 2014. Vietnam is estimated to have produced 11Mt of cement in the first quarter of this year, rising one per cent from a year earlier, the government-run General Statistics Office said. Cement dispatches in Peru fell by 8.4 per cent YoY in May to 779,000t, reflecting an accelerating contraction of the domestic market, according to cement association Asocem.
