Nepal introduces higher cement standard certification

Nepal's government has extended domestic cement grades to three grades by the Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology (NBSM). Grades 43 and 53 have been added to the 33-grade cement, overturning the previous law that prohibited domestic manufacturers from labelling their cement products higher than grade 33. Kazakhstan’s Steppe Cement has sold 780,315t of cement in the first half of 2019, an increase of six per cent YoY from 738,228t in the year-ago period. The revenue from the sale of cement has surged 34 per cent to KZT14bn (US$36.6m) from KZT10.5bn. Blended and Portland cement shipments in the USA and Puerto Rico advanced 5.9 per cent to 8.7Mt in April 2019, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The largest US markets were Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Georgia, which accounted for a combined share of 42 per cent of such shipments. The Argentine cement market contracted by 11.4 per cent YoY to 860,631Mt in June, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. The domestic demand was entirely met by Argentina’s cement producers, who produced 863,924t of cement during the month. The Egyptian flag cargo vessel "Wadi Feran" laden with 50,141t of imported clinker, which was arrested at the outer anchorage of Chittagong in Bangladesh on 26 May, as per orders of the local High Court in a litigation, was finally released on Friday. The vessel had arrived on 8 May and later successfully offloaded cargo imported by local cement manufacturers.

Spanish cement consumption expands 7% YoY in April

The Cement Demand Index, presented by Oficemen, the Spanish cement producers’ association, has registered an increase of 7.1 per cent in April when compared with April 2018. Cement consumption in Peru rose 8.2 per cent YoY in May 2019 to 0.976Mt, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Argentina’s cement consumption advanced 4.3 per cent YoY to 964,762t in May 2019 from 924,211t in May 2018, according to the latest data by the country’s cement association, AFCP.
