GICA signed two agreements on Tuesday in Algiers with Chinese equipment manufacturer CBMI (a subsidiary of Sinoma) to build a new cement plant in Bechar and extend the plant in Zahana (Mascara). Owned by GICA subsidiary Saoura Cement Co, the new plant in Bechar will have a capacity of 1Mta and is expected to start production in 2018. PT Semen Padang has been granted land use of a forest area covering an area of 243.3ha in Indonesia. Medcem Cameroon starts production

Medcem Cameroon, part of Turkey-based Eren Holdings, has commissioned its new plant in Yaoundé, Cameroon, after delays that saw the unit postpone the start of operations from March to June and October.  The company’s output is sold in 50kg bags, which retail at CFA4750 (US$7.97), according to local press reports.
