The Brazilian cement market expanded by three per cent YoY to 4.761Mt in May 2020, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Between January-May, dispatches slipped 0.3 per cent YoY to 21,683Mt. Cement consumption in Argentina decreased by 32.8 per cent in May 2020 to reach 648,562t, according to new data published by AFCP, the country’s cement association. In May 2019 domestic dispatches were 964,733t. All volumes were supplied by Argentine cement producers with no imports entering the country. Moroccan cement sales fall 50% in May

Morocco’s cement market contracted 50.6 per cent in May with 523,848t of cement delivered to domestic customers, according to APC, the country’s cement association. In May 2019 deliveries by APC members (Asment Temara, Ciments de l’Atlas, Ciments du Maroc and LafargeHolcim Maroc) reached 1,060,372. Cement production in China fell 14.4 per cent YoY to 520.949Mt in the first four months of 2020. Dispatches of grey cement in Colombia declined 75.6 per cent to 241,900t in April 2020 from 991,100t in April 2019, according to the national statistics office, DANE. Spain saw cement consumption down 50 per cent YoY in April 2020 to less than 0.6Mt, according to the country’s cement association, Oficemen. The decline in demand has been attributed to the suspension of non-essential works between 30 March and 9 April.
