Turkish cement exports to Turkmenistan rise by 79% in 9M20

Cement exports from Turkey to Turkmenistan increased by 79.1 per cent from January through September 2020, compared to the same period in 2019, amounting to US$14.8m, the Turkish Trade Ministry reported. Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy denies reports about electricity supply

The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan has denied reports regarding the cessation of electricity supply to certain cement producers. According to the dispatch centre, the Akhangaran cement plant received 605,000kWh of electricity on 24 November. On average, this plant is supplied with 540,000kWh of electricity per day. Elsewhere, the Kuvasay cement plant consumes an average of 332,000kWh electricity per day.

US claims 18% of Turkey's cement exports in the 9M20

The USA represented an 18 per cent share of Turkish cement exports during the first nine months of the year, the largest share amongst the export destinations, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). Sberbank has consolidated 100 per cent of the share in the parent company of Eurocement Group (GFI Investment Ltd). The bank is currently searching for investors interested in Eurocement Group’s shares but is expected to write off part of the debt. Tajikistan exports 31% of production in 9M20

Tajikistan exported 990,000t of cement in the January-September period of 2020, according to the country’s Ministry of Industry and New Technologies. Around 31 per cent of the cement produced in the country was exported in the 9M20, mainly to Uzbekistan (562,000t), Afghanistan (391,000t) and Kyrgyzstan (43,000t). Two plants in Uzbekistan report fall in production

According to Uzbekistan’s Antimonopoly Committee, Akhangarancement announced the failure of two rotary kilns on 7 October. As a result, the company’s cement volumes offered for sale decreased on average from 7000 to 5000tpd. Tajikistan has produced more than 2.8Mt in the first eight months of 2020, representing a rise of 3.5 per cent YoY over the 8M19. There are 13 companies currently producing cement in the country, with an estimated annual capacity of 4.7Mta.

Steppe Cement sees 5% revenue increase for the 3Q20

Kazakhstan’s Steppe Cement saw a 5.2 per cent YoY increase in revenue to KZT11.11bn (US$26m) for the 3Q20, up from KZT10.56bn a year earlier. However, its sales volume declined four per cent to 556,162t. Average prices for delivered cement advanced to KZT18,841/t from KZT18,157/t. Kazakhstan’s cement market is expected to expand two per cent YoY in 2020.

Iskitim Cement produces 684,000t in the 8M20

Russia’s Iskitim Cement (Sibcem) produced 684,000t of cement in the first eight months of 2020, down 13 per cent compared to the target of the company. By late 2020, the company is expected to reach 90 per cent of its targeted volume for the year. Managing Director of Iskitimtsement, Vladimir Skakun, noted that the decline in production volumes was influenced by the suspension of all construction projects due to the coronavirus pandemic.
