Waste from Tirupur to fuel Coimbatore cement plant

The non-biodegradable waste generated in Tirupur, India, will be delivered to a cement plant on the outskirts of Coimbatore, following the signing of a letter of intent by Tirupur’s city corporation with ACC. Ramco Cements to spend INR8.5bn on plant expansion

India’s Ramco Cements is investing INR8.5bn (US$120m) to increase capacity at its facility in Jayanthipuram, Andhra Pradesh, by 1.5Mta and construct a 27MW WHR system. The project is part of an overall expansion plan for the company. Dalmia Bharat looks to expand into northern India

India’s Dalmia Bharat has reportedly secured mining rights near Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, and could be planning to construct a 4Mta plant over two phases in the area, according to the Business Standard. Anjani Portland records 15% net sales increase

India’s Anjani Portland Cement has reported a 15 per cent increase in net sales to INR1.05bn during the 2QFY18-19 ended 30 September, rising from INR912.9m of the year-ago period. However, net profit has fallen 51.6 per cent YoY to INR32.3m from INR66.8m. In the first six months of the fiscal year, net sales advanced 12.2 per cent to INR2.07bn. Whereas net profit declined 33.6 per cent to finish at INR92.6m, compared with INR139.5m of the 1HFY17-18.

JK Lakshmi reports 41% fall in net profit

India’s JK Lakshmi Cement has reported a 41 per cent YoY fall in net profit for the 2QFY18-19 ended 30 September, to INR78.1m (US$1.08m) from INR132.3m. However, total income rose 9.2 per cent to INR8.66bn, compared to INR7.93bn of the year-ago period. The company also recorded production and sales growth of 13 per cent in the second quarter. 

Mangalam Cement records 22% income increase

India-based Mangalam Cement Ltd has announced a 22.4 per cent YoY increase in total income to INR2.91bn (US$40.3m) for the 2QFY18-19, rising from INR2.38bn. Net profit advanced 191.8 per cent to INR31.25m from INR10.71m in the year-ago period. In the six-month period ended 30 September, total income was up 3.2 per cent YoY at INR5.5bn. However, the company also recorded a net loss of INR121m in the 1HFY18-19.

UltraTech's bid for Binani approved by NCLAT

A bid submitted by India’s UltraTech Cement to acquire Binani Cement has received approval from the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT). A two-member bench of NCLAT, headed by Chairman Justice S J Mukhopadhaya, approved the company’s resolution plan and said that the plan submitted by Dalmia Bharat’s Rajputana Properties was “discriminatory” against some financial creditors, according to the Press Trust of India. 

Votorantim Cimentos sells 75% share in Shree Digvijay Cement

Votorantim Cimentos has agreed the sale of its 75 per cent stake in Shree Digvijay Cement Co Ltd (SDCCL) to Indian private equity firm True North. Star Cement records 45% rise in net profit

India’s Star Cement Ltd has reported a 28.7 per cent YoY rise in net sales to INR3.62bn (US$49.98m) for the 2QFY18-19 ended 30 September, from INR2.81bn of the year-ago period. Net profit advanced 45.4 per cent to INR381.7m from INR262.6m. In the first six months of the FY18-19, net sales increased 20.2 per cent YoY to INR8.81bn. However, net profit fell 4.6 per cent to INR1.29bn, compared with INR1.35bn of the 1H17-18.
