Taiheiyo sees 7% drop in 1H net profits

Taiheiyo Cement reported a 1.7 per cent decline in group revenues to JPY431.39bn (US$3.95bn) in the first half of FY19-20 (ended 30 September 2019) from JPY438.7bn in 1HFY18-19. The company’s operating profit decreased 18 per cent to JPY22.46bn YoY while pretax profit fell 17.1 per cent to JPY22.47bn over the period when compared with April-September 2018. Net profits edged down by 6.6 per cent to JPY16.2bn in the 1HFY19-20 from JPY17.34bn in the year-ago period.

South Korean producers to reduce coal ash imports

Sumitomo Osaka sees 3% fall in net profit

Japan’s Sumitomo Osaka Cement has announced a 2.5 per cent YoY fall in net profit to JPY2.1bn (US$19.7m) for the quarter ending 30 June. Sales were down by 2.1 per cent to JPY58.9bn while pretax profit decreased 10.6 per cent to JPY3bn. However, operating profit saw a 3.5 per cent increase to JPY2.8bn. Tasman Sea to complete clinker offloading at Suva

Bulk carrier Tasman Sea is expected to complete the offloading of 11,880t of clinker at Suva Port, Fiji, today, according to the Fiji Sun. The clinker has been exported from Japan, which became a clinker importer into Fiji a year ago. The ship finished discharging 15,000t of clinker for the Tengy Cement Factory in Lautoka last week. The plant receives a clinker shipment every quarter.

The Tasman Sea, a bulk carrier registered under a Hong Kong flag, docked at Lautoka Port to off-load clinker for the Tengy Cement Factory in Naikabula  and is expected to arrive in Suva next week for its factory in Veisari, Lami. Taiheiyo Cement has reported a four per cent increase in revenue to JPY438.7bn (US$3.86bn) in the first half of FY18, ended 30 September 2018. In 1HFY17 the company saw a revenue of JPY421.94bn. Operating profit slipped to JPY27.38bn in 1HFY18 from JPY27.43bn in 1HFY17 while pretax profit fell to JPY27.11bn from JPY28.07bn in the year-ago period. Taiheiyo Cement has announced a 5.9 per cent YoY increase in revenue to JPY211.34bn (US$1.9bn) in the first quarter of FY18-19 ended 30 June, compared with JPY199.61bn of the year-ago period. Sumitomo Osaka Cement records 10% revenue increase in 1QFY18-19

Japan’s Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co recorded a 10 per cent YoY revenue increase in the first quarter of the FY18-19 period, rising to JPY60.19bn (US$540.56m) from JPY57.35bn. Japan-based Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co reported a 4.4 per cent rise in group revenues to JPY244.93bn (US$2.23bn) for FY17-18 ending March 2018 from JPY234.06bn in the previous financial year. Taiheiyo Cement has seen its revenues advance by 9.1 per cent to JPY871.11bn in FY17-18 from JPY798.59bn in the previous financial year. The company’s operating profit rose three per cent from JPY63.24bn to JPY65.13bn over the same period while pretax profit increased 7.6 per cent from JPY59.8bn to JPY64.37bn.
