Steel producer starts blastfurnace slag supply to French cement plant

A French cement plant has taken a first order for 50,000t of blastfurnace slag from Liberty Galați of Romania. The slag will be converted into low-carbon cement to lower the cement producer's carbon footprint. LafargeHolcim has announced the appointment of Bogdan Dobre as its new CEO for Romania and country head for Moldova effective from 1 January   2021. CRH Romania posts 15% turnover increase in 2019

CRH Romania reported a turnover of RON1.1bn (US$257.45m) in 2019, a 15 per cent YoY increase compared to the previous year, according to data published on Ministry of Finance's website. The company's profit exceeded RON100m, while the number of employees remained flat at around 720. The company has two cement factories in the country.

Romania's competition authority is to analyse LafargeHolcim's acquisition of Romanian precast concrete producer Somaco. Romanian cement market valued at EUR650-700m in 2018

The value of the Romanian cement market is estimated between EUR650m-700m (US$743m-800m) and is primarily supported by three large players: LafargeHolcim, HeidelbergCement and CRH. The three cement majors reported around RON3bn in total sales in 2018, representing a YoY rise of 10 per cent. LafargeHolcim’s Romanian operations were valued at EUR633m, followed by CRH (EUR469m) and HeidelbergCement (EUR410m).
