Siam Cement puts chemicals IPO on hold

Thailand-based Siam Cement has announced that it is postponing the initial public offering (IPO) of its SCG Chemicals business. According to Reuters News, the decision is due to unfavourable market conditions but the company plans to proceed with the IPO once conditions improve. SCG reported its operating results for the 1Q23, showing a recovery across all business units, with increased sales and profits boosted by the revival of tourism and China’s border reopening. SCG’s total assets as of 31 March 2023, amounted to THB923,725m (US$27,414m), of which 44 per cent represented assets in ASEAN (excluding Thailand). SCG reports 7% increase in revenue

The Siam Cement Public Co Ltd (SCG) reported a 14 per cent drop in sales revenue to THB122,190m (US$3510.1m) in the 4Q22 when compare with the 4Q21. The company’s EBITDA fell by 53 per cent YoY to THB10,122m while profit was down by 98 per cent YoY to THB157m.    The results were affected by lower chemicals product prices and volume driven by softer demand. Sublime Systems secures funding for low-carbon cement

US-based Sublime Systems has raised US$40m to develop new technology to produce low-carbon cement. The Borneo-based Sarawak Economic Development Corp (SEDC) and the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) are planning to create a joint venture to import cement from Thailand to address the supply shortage in the state of Sarawak. Thailand-based Siam Cement Group (SCG) has entered into a joint venture (JV) with India’s BigBloc Construction (BCL) to build a greenfield plant to manufacture aerated autoclaved concrete (AAC) blocks and AAC panels. The Philippines government has decided not to extend a tax on imports of cement. The levy on imported cement was first introduced on 22 October 2019 for three years. In the first year the tax was PHP250/t (US$4.5/t), which then fell to PHP245/t in the second year and PHP200/t in the third year.
