Ukrainian capacity utilisation on the rise

Antidumping duties on Portland cement and clinker from Belarus, Moldova and Russia introduced by the Ukrainian government last summer have led to an increase in output and capacity utilisation in Ukraine’s cement plants, according to Interfax-Ukraine. "We regard this step as positive, which allowed us to increase the load of enterprises and output of marketable products. Now our capacities are 90 per cent loaded," said Mykola Kruts, the chairman of the board of Ivano-Frankivskcement.

Overin Ltd (Cyprus) has brought the shares of PJSC HeidelbergCement Ukraine to obtain a 100 per cent stake in the company. Among the plant bought by Overin Ltd are the 0.61Mta Dniprodzerzhynsk grinding plant, the 1.69Mta Amvrosiyivka integrated plant and the 1.5Mta Kryvyi Rih integrated plant. Ukraine extends ban on Russian imports

The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers has amended the decree on the ban of imports of Russian goods into the country, extending its operation until 31 December 2020, according to UkrInform The import of Portland, aluminous, slag and other similar hydraulic cements and clinkers is prohibited. On 15 May, Ukraine imposed an embargo on Russian cement and plywood in response to the decision of the Russian Federation to close access of Ukrainian goods to Russia.

Ukrainian cement output up 27% in May

Cement production in Ukraine in May 2019 increased by 27.1 per cent YoY to 747,000t, according to the Ukrainian State Statistics Service. When compared with the previous month, cement output fell eight per cent. In the first five months of 2019, total cement production in the country advanced by 3.4 per cent to 3,086,000t when compared with the 5M18. In 2018 cement output declined by one per cent to 8.926Mt when compared with 2017.

Ukraine set to introduce new antidumping duties on imports

Ukraine’s interdepartmental commission for international trade has decided to introduce antidumping duties on imported cement clinker and Portland cement of 115 per cent for goods originating in Russia, 57 per cent for Belarus and 94.5 per cent for Moldova, according to the Economic Development and Trade Ministry. Mykolaivcement’s net profit falls to UAH174m

Ukrainian cement producer Mykolaivcement, indirectly controlled by CRH, has seen its net profit decline by 6.1 per cent to UAH174m (US$6.5m) in 2018, according to Ukrainian News Agency reports. Revenues slipped 3.1 per cent to UAH1.083bn YoY in 2018 while cement sales fell seven per cent to 712,000t. As a result, the company had a domestic market share of 7.9 per cent.
