Holcim US runs 38 per cent of production from wind power

Holcim US has signed a virtual PPA with the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) for renewable energy generation, according to a report from Euromoney. The ERCOT VPPA reports mean at least 38 per cent of Holcim's total energy consumption at their production units in Texas now comes from wind generation, as the company moves ahead with its decarbonisation strategy. By 2030, Holcim wants to run all its US businesses entirely on renewable energy.

GCC sees 2% rise in sales for 4Q20

Mexico's Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua (GCC) has seen a 1.7 per cent YoY increase in consolidated net sales to US$232.5m for the final quarter of 2020, compared to US$228.6m in the 4Q19. Ed Sullivan, PCA senior vice-president and chief economist, gave an economic outlook for the USA and a cement business forecast on the opening day of the IEEE East Coast meeting yesterday. CRH sees EBITDA rise 2% in the 1H20

CRH has released its unaudited results for the first half of 2020, showing a 4.9 per cent YoY decline in revenue to US$12.2bn from US$12.85bn in the 1H19. US cement consumption to drop 30.9 per cent in second quarter

The US cement consumption will drop 30.9 per cent in second quarter, according the Ed Sullivan, Chief Economist, Portland Cement Association (USA). Sullivan was speaking during the Cemtech Live Webinar on 15 April 2020, which was attended by over 400 participants from the global cement industry. Sullivan was due to speak at the IEEE-IAS/PCA Cement Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada on 20 April, but the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Watch the full presentation here

Mexico's Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua (GCC) has recorded an 11.1 per cent YoY increase in sales to US$677.4m for the first nine months of 2018. EBITDA surged 16.3 per cent to US$198.6m in the same period, while its EBIDTA margin reached 29.3 per cent. In the 3Q18 net sales advanced 10.6 per cent YoY to US$278.6m from US$251.9m. Kent Webber has been appointed president of Monarch Cement Company, Kansas (USA). Webber has been with Monarch since 2013, first as the company’s subsidiary operations manager at Kansas Building Products in Wichita, and most recently as its executive vice president.
