Cement sales in Brazil decline 5% in June

Sales of cement in Brazil saw a five per cent drop to 5.184Mt in June 2022 when compared with June 2021, according to the latest data by the Brazilian cement association, SNIC. The association attributes the drop to the uncertainty surrounding the Russia-Ukraine war impacting energy supplies. The price of petcoke increased 73.5 per cent in the last 12 months. Puerto Rican cement sales up 4% in June

In June 1.35m bags of 42.6kg,or 57,561t, were sold in Puerto Rico. This represents a 3.7 per cent increase when compared with June 2021, according to the country’s Institute of Statistics – the first increase in 13 months. When compared with June 2019, sales were up 19.6 per cent. Cement production advanced 31.5 per cent YoY in June to 860,000 bags, or 36,668t – the third consecutive increase.

Chilean cement market contracts 7% in May

Chile’s cement demand declined 6.7 per cent in May 2022 to 330,114t from 353,704t in May 2021, according to the Chilean construction chamber, CChC. When compared with April 2022, the decrease was around 5.4 per cent from 313,101t. In the first five months of 2022 total cement consumption dropped 6.4 per cent YoY to 1,675,216t from 1,789,995t in the January-May 2021 period.

Swiss deliveries slip in 2Q but up 3% in 1H22

Cement deliveries in Switzerland, including Liechtenstein, slipped 2.2 per cent YoY to 1,143,153t in the second quarter of 2022 from 1,168,331t in the 2Q21, according to cemsuisse, the Swiss cement association. Argentina’s cement demand increased by 14.8 per cent YoY and one per cent MoM to 1,109,755t, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Grey cement dispatches in Colombia advance by 35.2 per cent to 1.104Mt in May 2022 from 0.816Mt in May 2021, according to the country’s statistics office, DANE. Cement deliveries by APC members in Morocco declined 9.8 per cent to 1,229,636t in June 2022 when compared with June 2021, when deliveries reached 1,363,579t, according to Ipsos. Deliveries in the first six months of 2022 saw a drop of 4.7 per cent to 6,505,973t from 6,809,696t in the 6M21.
