Cement demand in Argentina remained largely stable YoY at 921,112t in February 2019, but fell 5.4 per cent MoM, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Vietnamese exports have risen 15.2 per cent in volume and 36.3 per cent in value for February 2019, rising to around 2.5Mt and US$105m, respectively. The average export price has increased 18.3 per cent YoY to US$42/t, according to the country’s Foreign Trade Agency. Qatar National Cement signs deal to expand export operations

Qatar National Cement (QNC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Qatar Primary Materials, which will allow the company to expand its cement export operations. The deal will see the cement company use Qatar Primary Materials’ facilities, silos and platforms to export cement and clinker, according to a statement posted to the country’s stock exchange. 

LafargeHolcim Algeria ships first white cement exports to South Africa

LafargeHolcim Algérie loads its first white cement shipment onboard for export LafargeHolcim Algérie has carried out its first exports of white cement from Oran, Algeria, to South Africa. A consignment of 10,000t of “Super White” cement, produced in the company’s Oggaz plant, was shipped to Cape Town. The shipment is part of the company’s export programme, launched in 2018. In the run-up to 2021, LafargeHolcim expects to export 10Mt of grey cement clinker to west Africa.

Current downward trends in Pakistan's domestic cement demand are expected to impact capacity utilisation. Overall cement sales in the country declined by 12 per cent YoY in February 2019 to 3.3Mt, according to Intermarket Securities Ltd, quoting APCMA data. The cement industry dispatched 3.325Mt in February 2019 against dispatches of 3.78Mt in February 2018, according to data released by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA). Bangladesh's cement industry recorded a fall of 15.27 per cent in export revenue to US$6.55m during the first seven months of FY18-19 (July-January, 2019) compared to US$7.73m, earned in the same months last year, according to the Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau.
