Cement shipments in USA-Puerto Rico up 9% YoY

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement (including imports) in the USA and Puerto Rico in April 2018 increased 8.9 per cent YoY to 8.2Mt, according to the latest data by the US Geological Survey (USGS).  The leading cement-consuming states were Texas, California, Florida, Georgia and Ohio, which received some 44 per cent of total April shipments. Argentina’s cement market contracted by 3.5 per cent to 970,978t in June 2018 from 1.007Mt in June 2017, according to the latest data from AFCP, the country’s cement association. Output from the country’s cement plants slipped 2.8 per cent to 973,743t from 1.002Mt in June 2017. Grey cement dispatches in Colombia edged down 1.6 per cent in May 2018 to 0.984Mt from 0.999Mt in May 2017, according to the country’s statistics office, DANE. Cement sales were particularly strong in Valle del Cauca, where they rose by 8.3 per cent. However, in Bogotá they declined by 7.5 per cent and in Bolívar by 17.2 per cent. Vietnamese cement producers have sold 8.71Mt in June, up 30 per cent YoY, said the Vietnam Building Material Association. Domestic demand reached 6.91Mt, representing a 29 per cent increase when compared with June 2017, including 2.18Mt sold by Vietnam Cement Industry Corp (Vicem). According to Pakistan's Federal Bureau of Statistics, the large-scale manufacturing sector posted 6.13 per cent growth in the first 10 months of FY17-18 (July 2017-April 2018) as the construction boom continued to drive the consumption of cement and steel, while other sectors also recording growth. Peru’s cement market remained largely stable in May with consumption edging up by 0.6 per cent YoY to 0.778Mt and by 2.5 per cent from 0.759Mt the previous month, according to the latest data by Asocem, the country’s cement association. Anhui Tongling Conch Cement Co Ltd was required to suspend operations of a cargo pier in late May, according to a notice jointly issued by the Tongling Environmental Protection Bureau and Tongling Port and Shipping (Local Maritime) Bureau, China. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA and Puerto Rico slipped to to 7.42Mt in March 2018 when compared to March 2017, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Argentine cement consumption decreased by 4.4 per cent to 924,979t in May 2018, according to AFCP, the country’s cement association. When compared with the previous month, demand contracted by 3.5 per cent from 958,184t in April.
