Uganda's Government, through the Ministry of Trade and Cooperatives, has vowed to allow cheap imported cement into the country if local cement manufacturers do not lower prices.

Cement prices in Uganda have increased by UGX5000-11,000 (US$1.35-2.98) within a month, sparking a country-wide crisis in the building sector, according to the Daily Monitor. Cement consumption in Argentina increased 6.2 per cent in March 2018 to 1,091,121t from 1,027,094t in March 2017, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Pakistan reached its highest-ever capacity utlisation at 93.7 per cent during the 9MFY18 period, ended March 2018. In total, cement dispatches rose 14.7 per cent YoY to 34.75Mt, according to figures supplied by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA). Cement production in Pakistan rises 12% in 7MFY18

Cement production in Pakistan recorded 12.1 per cent growth YoY during the first seven months of the current financial year. The country produced 23.77Mt of cement throughout July 2017-January 2018, compared to 21.2Mt of the year-ago period.  In January 2018 alone, production increased 23.5 per cent YoY to 3.64Mt (2017: 2.95Mt), according to the Business Recorder.
