Vietnam sees output rise 16% in Jan-Apr 2016

Vietnam cement producers have produced 24.4Mt of cement in Jan-Apr 2016, up 15.8 per cent YoY, according to estimates from the government-run General Statistics Office. In April 2016 output is expected to have risen 12.5 per cent when compared to April 2015, said the organisation in a report. Vietnam's total cement and clinker inventory last month amounted to 3Mt, most of which included clinker, according to local press reports. State-owned Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem), accounted for 64 per cent of the total sum with 2Mt of stock. Colombia January cement consumption up 3%

In January 2016 Colombia’s cement market expanded by three per cent to 0.956Mt from 0.928Mt in the same month a year earlier, according to latest data from country’s statistics office, DANE. Growth was particularly strong in Córdoba (+44.1 per cent), Risaralda (+42 per cent), Norte de Santander (+33.5 per cent) and Valle del Cauca (+10.7 per cent). Cement production increased 7.3 per cent YoY to 0.966Mt in January, from 0.9Mt in January 2015.

Votorantim Cimentos is investing a further EUR1.7m in the Toral de Los Vados cement works in Spain this year, having spent EUR1.8m there last year. Clinker production at the works declined by some 10 per cent last year reflecting lower exports. with the total production also being off by 10 per cent to 0.60Mt. The tinvestments will fund environmental and health and safety improvements.

Dominican Republic: market expands, prices fall

National cement production in the Dominican Republic reached 5.18Mt, an increase of 3.2 per cent YoY, according to official statistics. This represents 75 per cent of the country’s installed production capacity of 6.91Mt. Meanwhile, the domestic market expanded by 6.2 per cent when compared with 2014.
