Ethiopia: two new plants due to commence production in 2H14

Two new cement plants currently being implemented in Ethiopia are expected to begin production in the second half of this year, according to the director general of the Chemicals and Construction Materials Development Institute. Paraguay river flooding reduces INC output capacity

Due to the flooding of the Paraguay River, Industria Nacional del Cemento in Paraguay will operate at only 70 per cent of its production capacity this week, said its president Jorge Méndez. Vicem production up 5.1% per cent in first five months

Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem) produced 7.34Mt of cement in the first five months of this year, rising 5.1 per cent from a year ago and fulfilling 39 per cent of the whole-year target. The corporation’s clinker output, however, fell by three per cent YoY to 6.63Mt in the period, meeting 38.4 per cent of the full-year target. Belgorodskiy Cement monthly output increases 6% YoY

Belgorodskiy Cement, a member of Russia’s Eurocement group, produced 155,439t of cement, six per cent more than the same month of 2013. The company witnessed increased demand for high-quality PC-500-D0-N cement during April 2014. A total of 27,325t of this cement type was produced, 15,077t more than during the comparative period in the year before.

Venezuela: Cemento Andino output reaches 283,308t

Venezuela’s Cemento Andino produced 283,308t of cement between January and mid-June. The output was delivered to serve the Trujillo, Mérida, Barinas, Portuguesa, Lara and Zulia markets, according to Oswaldo Zerpa, Andino’s general manager. The company is currently building a second production line which will see its capacity increase to 2.1Mta.

Peru: cement dispatches edge ahead

Between January and May 2014, Peru’s cement market expanded by 0.51 per cent YoY to 4,129,906t, according to the latest figures from the domestic cement association, Asocem. Production rose by 0.95 per cent YoY to 4,231,221t in the first five months of the year, from 4,191,295Mt in the same period a year ago. Exports jumped from 81,356t to 95,716t, up 17.65 per cent during Jan-May.

Vietnam is estimated to have produced 5.5Mt of cement in May, up four per cent from April and 9.8 per cent from a year ago, according to data from the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) said.?? China's cement exports declined by 9.4 per cent YoY to 2.96Mt in the first four months of 2014, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs. However, the growth rate was 1.5 per cent higher than the level realised in the first quarter of this year. Clinker exports surged 63.09 per cent YoY to 1.31Mt over the Jan-April 2014 period.
