Cement dispatches in Peru surged 151 per cent YoY to 1.09Mt in March 2021 from a low base of 0.435Mt in March 2020, when the country faced measures to slow the spread of COVID-19, according to its national cement association, Asocem. Brazil's cement market expanded 34.2 per cent to 5.48Mt in March 2021 when compared with March 2020, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Market growth was the strongest in the south, where sales increased 45.3 per cent YoY from 682,000t to 991,000t in March 2021, followed by sales in the northeast, which expanded by 43.6 per cent to 1,127,000t from 785,000t. Cement deliveries in Uruguay saw a 33.8 per cent YoY advance in March 2021 to 71,027t from 53,083t in March 2020. Cement demand in Argentina surged by 94 per cent YoY to 974,391t in March 2021 from a low base of 502,368t in March 2020, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. The market was entirely supplied by domestic production, which advanced by 93.5 per cent from 508,402t to 983,911t over the same period. Pakistan’s cement sector posted its highest-ever monthly growth of 44.4 per cent YoY for March 2021, rising to 5.773Mt from 3.722Mt in the year-ago period on the back of an increase in domestic consumption and exports. Vietnam’s cement and clinker exports up 22%

Cement and clinker exports increased by 22.5 per cent YoY to over 8Mt in the year up to 15 March 2021, according to the latest data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs. In terms of value, there was a 14 per cent YoY rise to US$295m. However, average prices dropped 6.7 per cent YoY to US$36.40/t. A drop in average cement and clinker prices in China led to a decline in Vietnamese prices from US$40/t to U$32-33/t since late 2020.

Cuban cement exports fall 40% in 2020

Despite domestic shortages, Cuba exported 21,235t of cement at a value of US$1.04m in 2020, representing a 39.7 per cent drop YoY, according to Periodico Cubano. China, the Philippines and Bangladesh were the biggest importers of Vietnamese cement in the first two months of 2021, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs. China imported 2.43Mt of cement worth US$79.91m, up 36.1 per cent YoY and 22.8 per cent in volume and value, respectively. Algeria starts clinker exports to France

CILAS commenced Algerian clinker exports to France with a 9000t shipment of clinker from the port of Skikda. In the coming weeks, other shipments of 10,000t will leave Algeria for France, according to M Souakri.
