The Competition Commission of India has approved the 100 per cent acquisition of the total issued and paid-up share capital of Emami Cement Ltd by Nuvoco Vistas Corp. A week ago, Emami Cement Ltd agreed the takeover by Nuvoco Vistas Corp (Nirma group) for its cement operations in India. India’s Emami Group has announced the sale of its 8.3Mta cement business to Nuvoco Vistas (Nirma Group), with the move valued at INR55bn (US$770.56m). India’s Nuvoco Vistas Corp Ltd has announced the appointment of Jayakumar Krishnaswamy as its managing director with immediate effect. Mr Krishnaswamy will be responsible for the company’s three business divisions of cement, ready-mix and aggregates. Mr Krishnaswamy had previously worked as the managing director of AkzoNobel India, a paints and coating manufacturing company, and was responsible for its operations in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, according to a press release.
