Vietnam sees fall in January domestic sales while exports advance

Vietnam saw a 24 per cent drop in cement sales to 4,133,512t in January 2022 when compared with January 2021, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Of this total, VICEM sold 1,382,175t, down 20 per cent YoY, while other associated companies saw their sales shrink 27 per cent YoY to 911,337t in January 2022. Cement demand in El Salvador sees 33% hike in 10M21

Apparent cement consumption in El Salvador increased 33 per cent YoY to 1.437Mt in the 10M21 from 1.086Mt in the 10M20, according to the country’s construction chamber, CASALCO. Cement prices have increased with cement delivered ex-works (including VAT) up 6.9 per cent YoY to US$8.09/bag of 42.5kg in January 2022 from US$7.57/bag in January 2021. At the retail level, prices increased by 5.6 per cent YoY to US$8.83/bag in January 2022 from US$8.36/bag.

Peru’s cement market expands in January 2022

Cement dispatches to the Peruvian cement market by Asocem members reached 1.012Mt, up two per cent YoY and by 22 per cent when compared with January 2020, according to Peru’s cement association, Asocem. Builders in Thimphu are reporting cement shortages as cement agents in the town have depleted their stocks. Brazilian cement market contracts 9% in January

Total cement sales in Brazil (including exports) declined by 8.6 per cent YoY to 4.6Mt in January 2022, according the country’s cement association, SNIC. When compared with December 2021, sales were down 3.7 per cent. In terms of sales per working day, sales fell 10.8 per cent YoY and 3.9 per cent MoM to 197,400t. Cement sales in Puerto Rico declined 11.5 per cent to 45,622t in January 2022 when compared to January 2021, according to the country’s Statistics Institute. Cement producers in Iran produced 4.21Mt of cement and 5.23Mt of clinker, according to the Iranian Cement Association. They supplied the domestic market with 4.23Mt while clinker and cement exports reached 0.81Mt and 0.24Mt, respectively.

Senegal sales up 12% YoY

Cement sales in Senegal advanced 12.7 per cent MoM and by 11.9 per cent YoY in November 2021, according to its National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD). Output from the plants of SOCOCIM, Dangote and Ciments du Sahel increased by 11 per cent MoM  and by 20.7 per cent YoY in November 2021. Exports declined 5.6 per cent in November 2021 when compared with export shipments in October 2021 although YoY they were up 29.6 per cent.

In 2021 cement producers in the Dominican Republic manufactured 6.5Mt of cement, supplying a construction industry that saw 23.4 per cent growth as the country started its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Cement consumption in Chile increased 2.3 per cent YoY to 373,351t in December 2021, reports the Chilean Chamber of Construction (CChC). For the full-year 2021 total cement demand reached 4,388,207t, up 15.6 per cent when compared with 3,796,976t sold in December 2020.
