Armenia raises cement import duty

The National Assembly of Armenia passed a law to establish import duties of AMD22,000/t (US$45.56/t) on the import of cement for a period of one year, until April 2020. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA and Puerto Rico advanced 11 per cent YoY to 6.4Mt, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Pakistan's exports to South Africa fall after anti-dumping duty

Pakistan’s cement exports to South Africa have significantly fallen over the last two years as a result of the anti-dumping duty imposed by the South African government, according to Mohammad Rafiq Memon, chairman of the Pakistan-South Africa Business Forum (PSABF). Peru’s cement consumption advanced 4.8 per cent to 0.931Mt in March 2019 when compared with March 2018, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. The figure includes 105,500t of cement imports, up 116 per cent from 48,900t in March 2018. Rwanda Bureau of Standards (RBS) returned cement imports into Rwanda by Uganda's Hima Cement Ltd (LafargeHolcim group) last month after they failed to meet the country's import quality standards. Cement demand in Argentina has fallen 13.8 per cent YoY to 940,112t in March 2019 when compared  with 1,091,122t in March 2018, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA reached 6.176Mt in December 2018, according to the latest data from the US Geological Survey (USGS). When compared with a volume of 6.244Mt in December 2017, this represents a 1.1 per cent YoY decrease.
