FLSmidth & Co. will open a factory in the Qingdao harbour city, to the east of Beijing, at the beginning of January 2007, Danish business daily Dagbladet Boersen reported on December 29, 2006. Suez clinches energy contracts with Siam Cement subsidiaries

The French utility Suez said Wednesday that its Glow Energy unit had signed two power supply agreements with units of the Thai group Siam Cement Company worth US$500-600m over 20 years.    In preparation for the new contracts, which are to benefit petrochemical companies affiliated with Siam Cement, Glow Energy plans to build additional generation capacity, Suez said.

Alberici Constructors Inc. has been tapped as partner of a joint venture to build the world’s largest cement plant near Ste. Genevieve.   Washington Group International of Boise, Idaho, and Alberici formed Washington Group Alberici to be the general contractor for the $905 million project. Lafarge is to award the transport unit of Veolia Environnement a major contract to transport 250,000-300,000tpa of slag used in making cement, the daily Les Echos said, without citing sources.    Both companies declined to comment.
