Tasek Corporation Bhd's net profit rose 11.86 per cent to MYR105.4m (US$29.1m) compared to MYR93.90m a year earlier despite heightened competition. Indonesian cement sales fell by 2.9 per cent YoY to 4.5Mt in January 2015, as heavy rains affected construction activity in several areas. Most region of the country registered a drop in demand during the month. Cement prices in the Philippines are set to rise by PHP10/40kg bag shortly, according to separate advisory statements issued by three domestic producers to local distributors. Cemex Corp, Lafarge and Eagle Cement have each notified distibutors of the impending rise, the Manila Standard reported yesterday. Vietnam monthly output up 27% YoY

Vietnam is estimated to have produced 5.2Mt of cement in January, down 8.1 per cent from December 2014 but up 27 per cent from a year ago, according to the government's General Statistics Office (GSO). In December 2014, the country’s cement output stood at 5.7Mt, according to the revised figure. The GSO also revised down the country’s cement output in 2014 to 54.1Mt, from earlier estimated of 59.8Mt.

State-owned Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem) sales rose by 3.2 per cent from a year ago and exceeded the year’s target by 5.7 per cent boosted by higher exports.
