Companies in Vietnam sold 6.07Mt of cement in May, up 9.7 per cent from a year ago, including 4.77Mt sold at the domestic market, rising by 11.9 per cent YoY, the Vietnam Building Material Department under the Ministry of Construction has said. Lafarge Malaysia’s revenue for the 1Q14 was 4.9 per cent higher YoY to MYR676.6m (210.7m), mainly due to higher cement and aggregate sales volumes. Revenue growth was partially offset by lower sales in the aggregate and concrete division attributed to the completion of the KLIA 2 project, the group said in a statement. Vietnam exported 8.38Mt of cement and clinker worth US$355m in the first four months of this year, up 41 and 43 per cent in terms of volume and value, respectively, the General Department of Vietnam Customs said. Vietnam is estimated to have produce 6Mt of cement in April, up seven per cent from March and 12.65 per cent from a year ago, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) said. In the four months to the end of April 2014, domestic cement output rose 7.6 per cent YoY to 19.4Mt, the office said in a monthly report.
