Indonesian cement demand growth is expected to slow in 2014 but sales are anticipated to rebound next year as new projects get underway. Cement sales in Vietnam jumped 16 per cent YoY to 64.46Mt in the first 11 months of this year, fulfilling the whole-year target, according to the government’s data. Lafarge Malaysia reported a 54.2 per cent drop in third-quarter pretax profit on lower revenue and higher operating cost arising from the increase in electricity and fuel prices. Vietnam cement companies sold 41.54Mt of cement in the domestic market in the first 10 months of this year, including 4.27Mt in October, the country’s Ministry of Construction (MoC) said. Indonesia, Malaysia and Taiwan were the largest importers of Vietnamese clinker and cement in the first nine months of this year, according to data released by the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade. Vietnam is estimated to have produced 5.2Mt of cement in October, up 8.33 per cent from September and 10.3 per cent from a year ago, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) said.
