Cementos Pacasmayo SAA and subsidiaries announced that its Board of Directors have approved the separation of its phosphate operations Fosfatos del Pacifico (FOSPAC) from its cement operations. Votorantim Cimentos has made an agreement with Concesur (Consorcio Cementero del Sur) to purchase the cement assets of Cementos Orotongo acquired by Votorantim in 2012 from Cimpor. The deal is worth US$4m and includes a project to set up a US$125m cement plant at La Joya with a capacity for 650,000tpa of cement and 1500tpd of clinker. Peru's cement market contracted 3.7 per cent YoY in July as 772,000t were sold, according to the latest data by Asocem, the Peruvian cement association. Cementos Pacasmayo SAA has announced its consolidated results for the 2Q16, stating that volumes of cement, concrete and blocks rose 4.8 per cent during the period and revenues increased 9.1 per cent to PEN301.7m (US$90.6m). In June, Peruvian cement demand fell by 3.5 per cent YoY to 0.756Mt from 0.781Mt, according to Asocem, the country's cement association. Peru: Inka to start Pisco cement plant construction

Cementos Inka will begin construction of a second cement plant in Pisco, Peru, in the next few months. This second unit will be situated on a 20ha plot and should begin production in the 4Q17. Unacem will invest in two separate power generation projects in 2016. Through Compania Electrica El Platanal it will invest in Carpapata III in its plant in Condorcocha in Junin. It will also invest US$60m (EUR 53.18m) in a hydroelectric plant in Maranon that is due to begin operations in 2016.

Peru cement demand up 1.4% in May

Peru’s cement consumption increased by 1.4 per cent YoY in May, according to the Asociación de Productores de Cemento. Total deliveries, which include exports, increased 1.9 per cent. Production slipped 0.2 per cent when compared with May 2015. “During the fifth month of 2016, cement production fell slightly but national and total dispatches continued to grow,” said the cement association.

Peru’s cement demand increased 1.8 per cent YoY in April to 781,000t, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. This reversed the previous month’s fall of 1.4 per cent. Cement output in April expanded by 7.5 per cent YoY to 831,000t. Some 29,000t of this volume was exported, reflecting an eight per cent decrease when compared with April 2015. In addition, 23,000t of clinker was exported – some 17 per cent below the April 2015 level.
