Cement production in Pakistan dips during 5MFY19

Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has reportged numbers of quantum index of the Large Scale Manufacturing (LSM) which posted a cumulative decline of 0.90 per cent YoY during 5MFY19, against the growth of 7.66 per cent YoY in 5MFY18. Puerto Rican cement sales surge 39% in 2018

Cement sales in Puerto Rico advanced by 38.9 per cent to 14.3m bags of 42.5kg, or 607,750t in 2018. The figure is the highest reported since 2014 and has been attributed mainly to the island’s reconstruction drive following Hurricane Maria. Cement output reached 13.2m bags, or 561,000t, representing a 44.6 per cent rise YoY when compared with 2017, when production volumes fell by 14.2 per cent, according to Esmerk Latin American News.

Peru's cement market expands 4% in 2018

Cement consumption in Peru increased 5.8 per cent YoY to 1.02Mt in December 2018, according to the latest data from Peru’s cement association, Asocem. Cement production remained largely stable in December 2018 at 906,000t, up 0.9 per cent YoY and 0.6 per cent MoM. Clinker output rose 2.1 per cent YoY to 913,000t and 6.9 per cent MoM from 855,000t. Ivorian cement output up to 2.5Mt in 2017

Cement production in Côte d’Ivoire has increased from 2.5Mt in 2015 to 3.5Mt in 2017, according to Abidjan.net. In addition, with an XOF73bn (US$127.5m) investment into new cement plants and upgrading old facility as well as growing demand due to major public works projects, cement producers have lifted their capacity to 7.2Mta in 2017. Furthermore, with the commissioning of an additional seven units expected in 2019, cement capacity is set to rise to 9.4Mta by the end of this year.

Brazil cement sales slip 1.2% in 2018, growth return in 2019

Cement sales in the Brazilian market remained largely stable at 3.964Mt in December 2018 from 3.97Mt in December 2017, according to the latest data from the country’s cement association, SNIC. Aggregate cement sales from 17 producers in Saudi Arabia slipped by six per cent in December to 3.82Mt, compared to 4.08Mt in December 2017, reported Yamama cement. Sri Lanka's cement production fell 3.2 per cent to 2.086Mt in the first nine months of 2018, but output picked up in September. Total imports and production was flat at 6.204Mt in the first nine months of the year, against 6.229Mt a year earlier, reports the Central Bank. NCL Industries reports 13% growth in output in 3QFY18-19

India-based NCL Industries has reported a 13 per cent YoY increase in cement production to 552,000t in the third quarter of FY18-19, up from 490,000t in the year-ago period. Cement deliveries advanced by 18 per cent to 555,000t in the 3QFY18-19 from 471,000t in the 3QFY17-18, according to Accord Fintech. In addition, the company’s cement boards production and dispatches increased by three and four per cent, respectively to 17,631t and 16,713t, respectively during the 3QFY18-19.

Argentina’s cement market contracted 19.5 per cent YoY to 808,887t in December 2018, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. In December 2017 domestic off-take was 1.004Mt. Domestic dispatches of grey cement in Colombia advanced 4.3 per cent YoY to 1.065Mt in November 2017 from 1.021Mt, according to the latest data from DANE, the country’s statistics office. Increased volumes of cement were sold to the retail sector (+4.4 per cent) and ready-mix companies (+10.1 per cent).
