Peru's cement producers see 10% rise in local dispatches in September

Cement consumption in Peru remained largely stable at 1.018Mt in September 2020 when compared with August 2020 and increased 10 per cent YoY. Of this total, local dispatches accounted for 1.001Mt, representing a 7.3 per cent rise MoM and a 10.4 per cent increase YoY, according to Asocem, the country’s cement association. Cement dispatches in Peru slipped 0.1 per cent YoY but increased 12.9 per cent MoM to 0.933Mt in August 2020, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Domestic producers dispatched 0.944Mt including exports. Cement dispatches in Peru are recovering from COVID-19 disruption. In July 2020, 0.826Mt of cement was delivered to the domestic market, according to Asocem. While still 5.7 per cent below the July 2019 level of 0.876Mt, when compared with June 2020, there was a 39 per cent surge from 0.594Mt. While cement demand in Peru rebounded in June 2020 to 678,000t when compared with 298,000t sold in May 2020, it remained 26.1 per cent below demand reported in June 2019 as the impact of the coronavirus pandemic continue to be felt, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Cement consumption in Peru fell by 69.1 per cent YoY to 298,300t in May 2020, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Cement production fell by 70 per cent to 263,000t in May 2020 when compared with May 2019 but recovered considerably when compared with April 2020 when COVID-19 impacted operations at the country’s cement plants. Peru’s cement market sharply contracted to 5700t in April 2020, down from 883,000t in April 2019 and from 488,000t in March 2020, according to Asocem, the country’s cement association. Peru's cement market contracted by 46.8 per cent YoY to 0.488Mt in March 2020, according to the Peruvian cement association, Asocem. Of this total national dispatches accounted for 0.481Mt. National cement demand in Peru advanced 5.3 per cent in February 2020 to 0.935Mt when compared with February 2019, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Peru’s cement market expanded 2.1 per cent YoY to 946,000t in January 2020 from 927,000 in the year-ago period, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Peru’s cement market expanded by 1.6 per cent to 996,000t in December 2019, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem.
