Vietnam cement sales expand 13% in December

Total cement sales by Vietnamese cement producers increased 13 per cent YoY and five per cent MoM to 9,573,455t in December 2019, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Carthage Cement to start exports to Europe

Following the award of a CE mark, Tunisia-based Carthage Cement will start exports to Europe from March 2020 onward, reports ilBoursa. The first shipment will consist of  150,000t of cement. “This operation marks a new horizon and a new opportunity for the company as part of its drive to diversify the destinations of its products and its commercial fulfilment,” said the company in a statement.

US cement sales show modest gain in 2019

Cement sales edged up to US$12.5bn in 2019, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Of this total 70-75 per cent of sales were to ready-mixed concrete producers, 10 per cent to concrete product manufacturers, 8-10 per cent to contractors and 5-12 to other customers. Argentina’s cement market contracts 15% in January

Argentine cement consumption fell by 14.7 per cent YoY to 745,709t in January 2020, according to AFCP, the country’s cement association. The market was entirely supplied by domestic production and no imports were recorded. Output from Argentine cement plants reached 758,123t, down 14.3 per cent YoY from 884,363t in January 2018. Of this total, 12,414t were exported, representing a 19.6 per cent increase when compared with the year-ago period.

Bangladesh's cement industry has earned an export revenue of US$6.11m in the 7MFY19-20 (July 2019-January 2020), compared to US$6.55m earned in 7MFY18-19, a contraction of 6.7 per cent YoY. Vietnam to add 7.1Mta of cement capacity in 2020

Two new cement plants in Vietnam will go into operation this year, according to Nguyen Quang Cung, president of the Vietnam Cement Association. The first is in Tan Thang commune, the central province of Nghe An, with a capacity of 2-2.5Mta, while a second new plant is being built in Bim Son commune, Thanh Hoa province, with a capacity of 4.6Mta. Indonesian export sales up 12% in 2019

Indonesia’s cement producers saw export sales drop 38.1 per cent in December 2019 to 321,966t when compared with 519,684t in December 2018, reports Semen Indonesia Group. Clinker exports were particularly affected, noting a 46.6 per cent fall to 204,227t from 382,237t the previous year. Cement exports were down 14.3 per cent YoY to 117,739t from 137,447t. Full-year 2019 However, exports for the full year 2019 saw 11.8 per cent improvement to 6.365Mt when compared with 5.691Mt in 2018.

Tajikistan increases output in 2019 by 400,000t

Tajikistan produced 4.2Mt of cement in 2019, an increase of 400,000t compared to the previous year, according to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MoINT). The country’s cement exports also rose by around 150,000t to 1.546Mt. Tajikistan reportedly earned US$68.1m from its cement export activities in 2019. Pakistan cement industry's increased its overseas dispatches but saw value contract in 1HFY19-20.
