Domestic sales in Vietnam increased 19 per cent YoY and 147 per cent MoM to 6.797Mt in March 2019, according to the latest data from the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Vietnamese cement sales expected to rise 8% in Jan-Apr 2019

In the first four months of 2019, Vietnamese cement sales have been estimated to rise eight per cent YoY to 35.45Mt, according to the Vietnam Building Materials Association. This includes 21.65Mt sold domestically and a 23 per cent YoY rise in exports to 13.8Mt. Cement sales are expected to reach 9.18Mt in April, which is consistent with the previous year. Cement prices are on the up in Vietnam following the 8.4 per cent hike in electricity prices from 20 March. Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem) has reacted by raising its cement price by VND30,000/t (US$11.29/t). Xuan Thanh Cement orders new line from FLSmidth

Xuan Thanh Cement has awarded FLSmidth with a DKK550m (US$82.6m) contract for a new brownfield production line at its facility in Ha Nam province, Vietnam. FLSmidth will design and engineer the new clinker production line and deliver equipment for the entire process from crushing to clinker silo. Cement production in Vietnam in February 2019 reached 5.093Mt in February, up eight per cent when compared with February 2018 but down 29.7 per cent from 7.247Mt in January 2019, according the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Vietnamese cement sales are estimated to have reached 23.08Mt in the 1Q19, an increase of four per cent YoY, according to the latest data released by the Vietnam Building Materials Association. Higher electricity costs to impact Vietnamese cement prices

Vietnam Cement Industry Corp (VICEM) has announced that its electricity costs will increase by VND20bn (US$855,730) per month, and therefore product prices are also expected to rise. Local producers have stated that they will raise prices by VND30,000-50,000/t. On 20 March power prices went up by 8.4 per cent to VND1864, exclusive of VAT, after remaining unchanged for two years. Vietnamese exports have risen 15.2 per cent in volume and 36.3 per cent in value for February 2019, rising to around 2.5Mt and US$105m, respectively. The average export price has increased 18.3 per cent YoY to US$42/t, according to the country’s Foreign Trade Agency. Vietnam expected to record 8-9% cement sales increase

Vietnam is expected to record an 8-9 per cent YoY rise in cement sales to 98-99Mt in 2019, according to a forecast by the country’s Ministry of Construction. Of this, domestic sales would consist of 70Mt while the additional 29-30Mt would be exports. Two more production lines are also expected to push cement output to 101.74Mt from a total of 84 lines. The country produced 90.2Mt of cement in 2018.
