Long Son plant to enter second phase of expansion

The Vietnamese Prime Minister has issued guidelines on investment for the expansion of Long Son cement plant, Thanh Hoa, and has agreed to action the second phase with two additional production lines. Each line will add 2.3Mta of cement capacity and is expected to supply the construction of coastal and inland projects, in accordance with the country’s cement development plan for 2011-20. Vietnam Jan-Nov output up 9% YoY

Vietnam is estimated to have produced 81.9Mt of cement in the first 11 months of 2018, representing a rise of 9.3 per cent YoY, according to the country’s General Statistics Office. Cement output in November increased 8.9 per cent YoY to 8.2Mt and saw a 3.8 per cent advance MoM from 7.9Mt in October.

The Vietnamese cement industry has surpassed its annual sales target of 83-85Mt in the first 10-months of 2018, on the back of high demand in global markets. Domestic cement sales in September rose 23 per cent YoY in September 2018 to 5.313Mt, according to data published by the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). The Vietnamese Ministry of Construction (MoC) has estimated that the country’s cement exports will rise 43 per cent YoY to 2.2Mt in September. Vietnam’s La Hien Cement JSC has announced a 20 per cent YoY increase in revenue to VND334.1bn (US$14.31m) for the first half of 2018. Vietnamese cement demand rose 14 per cent YoY to 5.44Mt in August 2018, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA).
