Vietnam estimated to produce 7.8Mt in January

Vietnam’s General Statistics Office has estimated that the country produced 7.8Mt of cement in January 2019. This figure represents a 5.9 per cent YoY increase, but is down 1.6 per cent MoM. Revised figures for 2018 show that the country produced 90.2Mt in the full-year period, up 9.7 per cent YoY.

Safeguard measures placed against imports into Philippines

The Philippine’s Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has begun preliminary safeguard measures against cement imports from Vietnam amongst other countries. As such, the DTI applied duties of PHP8.40 (US$0.16)/40kg bag or PHP210/t (US$4/t). The safeguard measures will be in place for 200 days from 18 January 2019. Cement demand in Vietnam slips 1% YoY

Total cement demand in Vietnam fell to 5.828Mt in December 2018, down by one per cent YoY, but up three per cent when compared with November 2018, according to the latest data by the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Thanh Thang receives approval for two additional lines

Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Vietnam’s prime minister, has given approval to add two cement production lines (4 and 5), with a capacity of 2.3Mta each, to Thanh Thang Cement Corp’s plant in Ha Nam. Vietnam Cement industry Corp (VICEM) has reported a 10 per cent YoY increase in revenue to VND37trn (US$1.59bn) for 2018. The company also saw an 11 per cent rise in pretax profit to VND2.8trn. China accounts for 15% of Central American cement imports

In the first half of 2018, Central America’s largest importing country was Nicaragua, which purchased cement from overseas sources to the value of US$28m, followed by Guatemala at US$18m. Cement consumption in Vietnam remained largely stable in November 2018 when compared with the previous year at 5.675Mt, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). The volume of Vietnamese cement exports rose 55 per cent YoY to 31.65Mt in 2018, according to the Vietnam Cement Association (VNCA). As the highest ever export value in the sector, it represents an estimated value of US$1.2bn. Vietnam sees 9% cement production rise in 2018

Vietnam is estimated to have produced 90.2Mt of cement in 2018, up 9.1  per  cent YoY, according to the latest data from the country’s government-run General Statistics Office (GSO).   The sum included 8.6Mt in December, an increase of 9.8 per  cent compared to the year-ago period.   In 2017, the country produced 85.4Mt of cement, including 7.6Mt in December, according to revised figures.

Vietnam’s cement industry has helped drive an increase in coal sales during the first 11 months of 2018.
