Puerto Rican cement sales up 41% in January

Puerto Rican cement sales surged 41 per cent YoY to 51,164t in January 2021, according to Sin Comillas. Cement sales in the country have been rising sharply for nine months. In 2020 deliveries advanced 2.8 per cent to 588,400t when compared with 2019. However, cement output from domestic cement plants dropped 33.2 per cent to 23,493t in January – the sixth-consecutive fall. In 2020 production fell 14.6 per cent YoY.

Vietnam sees production up 14% in first two months

Vietnam produced 15.5Mt of cement in the first two months of 2020, up 14 per cent YoY, according to the country’s General Statistics Office (GSO). In February the country’s cement output is expected to be down six per cent YoY to 6.8Mt. In 2020 production reached 100.1Mt of cement, rising 3.6 per cent YoY, according to the revised figures.

Uruguayan market expands by 8% in 2020

Cement sales in Uruguay increased 34.6 per cent YoY to 251,000t in the fourth quarter of 2020, according to the country’s chamber of industry, CIU. Of this total, 89 per cent or 223,290t were delivered to the domestic market, which expanded by 44.1 per cent YoY to around 257,000t in the 4Q20 from 179,000t in the 4Q19. Cement dispatches in Peru increased 18 per cent YoY to 1.059Mt in January 2021 from 0.895Mt in January 2020, reports Peruvian cement association, Asocem. Total US and Puerto Rican shipments of Portland and blended cement advanced nine per cent to 8.6Mt in November 2020 when compared with November 2019, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Cambodia's five cement factories produced 7.9Mt of product last year, rising seven per cent YoY, despite many construction projects being put on hold throughout the year as a result of COVID-19, according to Puth Chandarithm, secretary-general of the Cambodian Cement Manufacturing Association. The Bolivian cement market expanded by 20.9 per cent to 342,743t in November 2020 from 283,404t in November 2019, according to the country’s statistics institute, INE. However, MoM there was a 10.5 per cent decline from 382,944t in October 2020. Cement production in Bolivia surged by 77.3 per cent to 361,363t in November 2020 from 203,779t in November 2019.
